Tapir Vet Baird’s Tapir Conservation Programme
Dr Jorge Rojas-Jimenez runs a conservation programme working with Baird’s Tapir as the flagship species involving human-wildlife conflict, community based conservation and one health in Costa Rica. This programme is particularly suited to veterinary students, veterinary nurses and veterinary graduates wanting to work in endangered species conservation.
You will get to track radio-collared tapirs and maybe even to take part in a field anaesthetic procedure.
To investigate the diet of radiocollared Baird’s tapirs in the Tenorio-Miravalles Biological Corridor (TMBC) and other regions of Costa Rica through systematic field observations, thereby gaining insights into their feeding ecology and habitat preferences.
Diagnosis of Diseases in Horses Potentially Transmissible to Tapirs
To diagnose and identify diseases in domestic horses that have the potential to be transmitted to Baird’s tapirs in the Tenorio-Miravalles Biological Corridor (TMBC) and other regions of Costa Rica, and to assess the risk these diseases pose to tapir populations.
